Manchester City hosts Liverpool

Manchester City hosts Liverpool at the Etihad in the biggest Premier League derby for the weekend. These two teams will face each other on Sunday and this could be a really important game. Let’s take a look.

Manchester City approach this fixture from 10th place in the standings. Pep Guardiola’s team have 11 points won and a record of three wins, two draws and one defeat. It was not the best way for the Cityzens to start the 2020/21 season, but they still have enough time to improve. They are currently five points behind the leaders Liverpool.

Man City are unbeaten since September when they suffered a home defeat against Leicester City in the Premier League. It’s their only loss in the league so far. Since this result Guardiola’s boys are actually unbeaten and improving.

During the week Manchester City hosted Olympiakos in the Champions League and didn’t have any problem to record a 3-0 win at the Etihad. Ferran Torres opened the score in the first half while Gabriel Jesus and Joao Cancelo finished the job in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Liverpool are leading the Premier League table with 16 points won from seven matches played. It’s a curious thing that since they lost their star defender Virgil van Dijk Liverpool are actually flawless in their performance – five wins from five games played in all competition.

During the week the Reds achieved a stunning win in the Champions League. The Reds paid a visit to one of the best Italian team Atalanta and shocked the hosts with a 5-0 win at the Gewiss Stadium. Diogo Jota proved he’s in a terrific shape and scored a hattrick while Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored as well.

That’s our preview for the Premier League fixture between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad on Sunday. Can City move closer to the top? Let’s see.
